WEYERMANN BARKE PILSNER (TM) GRAIN GIVE AWAY... CONTEST!

We're taking a break from the yeast series for a day and we are having our first real give away!   Not a corny everybody wins give away.   An actual contest.  The amazing people at BSG have donated 10lbs of Weyermann Barke Pilsner TM malt to Counterbrew for a contest.   And one of you lucky readers will get to try this amazing grain for free. No cost, nada, zero, zippo... no postage, no handling... just free.    The runner up will win 1# of some other German Specialty malt, that we have here at Counterbrew!  An undermodified pilsner that can be used like a carapils.  Also cool stuff.

They want you to try this amazing Pilsner, and after using it a couple of times, I want you to try it too.  This is simply put the best Pilsner malt I have ever used, and I brew a lot of german lagers.   It extracts better than any I have tried, and the flavor is ridiculous.

So... how do you win?   it's easy you write.   You post a comment about how home brewing has impacted your life in a positive way.  Talk about friendship, talk about experiences, talk about tasting and appreciating beers.   Members of the counterbrew team are excluded from competition and will be helping to judge the entries.   Members of other blogs, are not excluded from this contest.  So bring your A game.  Cause, some of those guys can really write!

One more thing.  Don't be a douche!  Don't write "cuz me and my brahs have a sh*t ton of brewskies fo cheap, and the ladyz lovz the brewski"

The rules are simple.  Post in the comments section below.   The entries will be judged by the crackpot counterbrew team (me, John, MA, and Jake).  The winning entry will be selected by our impression of the entry.  Nothing more.  The contest will be open for one week.   Our decision will be final.   The winning entry will be posted on Counterbrew.   The winner will be contacted and the grains will be shipped to the winner. If you don't have a mill, let us know, and we'll mill it for you.

Counterbrew wants to thank the people at BSG for their amazing support.  BSG is committed to home brewing and to home brewers.

  1. Homebrewing is a meditation for people who are too anxious for traditional meditation.

  4. I started home brewing so that I could create the beer's I like to drink. home brewing has sparked my creativity and my desire to learn and try new thing's. My wife and I joined the local homebrew club, Shasta Society of Brewers. this has helped my wife deal with her depression and make new friend's.

One of the best experiences so far was when the club got together at a members home for a brew day. we all pitched in and brewed a 28 gallon batch of Flanders red to help fill a 60 gallon wine barrel. last week one of our members had a Birthday party at a local brewery and tomorrow we will be attending a "drain the keg's" party of a member who is moving out of state.

I love tasting all the different styles of beer and the variations that homebrewers make to them. in the beginning I was not a fan of IPA's but have come to appreciate some of the fantastic one's my fellow homebrewers have been making.

Homebrewing has opened up a whole new world to me and my wife, who actually brewed her first beer a few week's ago.

    Cheers!

  5. As a recent empty nester, I was looking for a hobby to share with my two boys. We took a brewing class at local HBS. My boys now come "Home" at least once a month for a brew day, we are attending brew club meeting and building our brewing setup together. A family who brews together stays together.

  7. For years my dad told stories of my granddad brewing in the kitchen. He served it to his friends from work and old war buddies. He apparently was odered by my grandma to stop when bottles exploded in the basement.
I thought someday my dad would want to brew, but we just never got around to it. I got a brewing kit on a lark and really enjoyed brewing. I like that it is totally different from my job and the stresses that brings to mind. I'm now remembering all my chemistry from years ago in high school and all the fun we had experimenting. Everyone in this hobby has been very encouraging, from facebook groups, homebrew store, brew clubs, individuals I have met at brewdays and at festivals. My friends have been excited to taste the results too. Who doesn't want some free beer?

  8. I love making my own beer as I have total control of what goes into it. I got so into home brewing that I bought a charcoal grill so I'd have more propane to brew with and still satisify the wife's cravings for grilled food. I secretly think she has them to get out of cooking. ;-)

  9. I can no longer drink beer from a bottle or can. I have to see what the brewer has created and compare it to my own. I eant the full color, the full taste and the full aroma that passrs my lips. Then I go home and try to recreate the best in my basement.

  12. I am a 15 years (and going) active duty Coast Guard member that transferred to upper Michigan last summer. Moving to a new area is always tough, but what made this move much easier was the neighbors that we met as soon as we moved into our house! They welcomed us immediately and my family and theirs were immediately best friends. After we got settled in we were invited over for a cookout where I learned that Ben makes his own Mead and dabbles in Hombrewings beer! He asked if I would want to help him brew one day. Of course I accepted not knowing that it would be one of the most enjoyable hobbies/lifestyles I could find!!!

I had always heard that brewing beer was difficult because if sanitizing and all the gear you need and what not, but Ben had his process down. He told me he didn't brew much since Mead is his calling and brewing was just not too fun because it is a lot of work for one person to do very often.

Since that first brew day we have brewed at least 2 times a month. Ben now says that he enjoys brewing again because of me and my family!! We fire up the smokers, get all the ingredients ready and the equipment sanitized in the morning! By boil time we are sipping a nice hopped whiskey or a pint of homebrew that we have on tap while puffing on a sweet cigar! The kids play together while the wives sip wine and chat or make something with new fabrics they have gathered for new sewing projects. What is even more enjoyable is when the homebrew is ready to enjoy!! We offer a pint to anyone we see just to get an opinion on how well we did!!

Brewing has brought us much closer together as a family and has helped us meet great new people throughout the community! The kids even help with certain steps!! It has also opened my eyes to the endless possibilities when it comes to NEW beer!

Just last week my wife called me while I was at work and asked, "what are you going to do when Ben transfers this summer and he won't be here to brew beer with you?" I replied, "I don't know. I guess I will just have to start finding beers to buy that match the quality of ours, but it won't be as fun." She immediately said, "Order what you need to keep brewing." My jaw dropped! I have everything I need on the way for me to extract brew and go into BIAB brewing in a shirt time!!

My wife sees how much I enjoy brewing with Ben, and realizes that it is something that can be done as a family!!

I look forward to the first break in on my equipment this weekend coming as both families come together for a Brew Day!!

Brewing is a team sport and family bonding event!!

    Brew On!!

    Jessie

  15. The greatest thing about home brewing is that it can always be built upon its an art and art is never perfected. This is my greatest joy.
